Brief:
Ashmount and Derby House are residential care centres for people with learning disabilities and severe autism, situated on the former St Ebba’s Hospital site in Epsom. They are part of the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, provider of mental health, learning disability and substance misuse services across Surrey and North East Hampshire.
Commercial Director at Dortrend, Alan McDonald, met with Environmental Improvement Manager Ian Rollings to brief him about the anti-ligature furniture Dortrend had previously installed on another site, and informed him of TouchClean’s ® properties.
It was subsequently decided to ask Dortrend to apply their TouchClean® coating in one of the toilets in Ashmount House, as an initial trial.
Evaluation:
As part of a site refurbishment and improvement programme, the toilets and bathrooms at Ashmount and Derby House are being fitted with new wall cladding, new flooring and new sanitary ware.
As with all NHS Trusts, hygiene is paramount and strict infection control measures are put in place to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria and ensure all facilities have a clean odour and appearance.
The Trust became interested in TouchClean® after learning about the product’s self cleaning and odour removal ability, and believed it could be used to enhance the facilities on site.
Implementation:
The trial within Ashmount House was carried out over several weeks following application of the TouchClean® coating.
The project was hugely successful with the toilet still appearing fresh and smelling clean after six months continual use.
As a result of this success, the Environmental Improvement Manager has since decided they would like to continue the treatment, and have requested that Dortrend return in December, and apply TouchClean® in the other toilet and two bathrooms of Ashmount, plus the two toilets and two bathrooms of Derby House.
The coating will last for at least 10 years.
